Gernot Wieland
Birds and Songs
Gernot Wieland’s films combine personal and historical narratives with scientific facts as well as fictional and real elements with tragicomic events. They attempt to conjure a sense of the uncanny, oftentimes in ironic or absurd forms. Infused with sober, poetic tension, they follow associative narrative structures. Thievery and Songs (2016) and Bird in Italian is Uccello (2022) include stories about the Town Musicians of Bremen, a dancer, psychotherapy sessions, the history of poverty, theater productions in Italian psychiatric wards in the 1970s, political events, and childhood memories.
