Hyeji Nam
MANSHIN
Ghostly masks, digital avatars and futuristic shamanism take the stage during this solo performance by Hyeji Nam. With myths, rituals and artificial intelligence, the Korean-born Viennese artist establishes connections between the past and the present. “The Korean ‘gut’ ceremony, where shamans dance, sing and fall into a trance to the accompaniment of drums, has always fascinated me with its intense atmosphere”, Nam says. In MANSHIN, she reflects on presence, memory, loss and belonging. The boundaries between cultural tradition and digital innovation become blurred in the process. The result is a mystical exploration of the complexities of existence and its transformation in the post-digital age, using performance, music and visual arts as creative tools of equal relevance.
