FRAU.MACHT.RECHT (WOMEN.POWER.LAW)
in the context of Never Final! The Evolving Museum

FRAU.MACHT.RECHT

The FRAU.MACHT.RECHT Project, part of the exhibition Never Final! The Evolving Museum, brings together seemingly opposing concepts in exemplary fashion.

In a series of workshops, 75 women explore the foundations of democracy and the rule of law, reflect on their own experiences, and transform them into artistic and creative forms of expression—from social media videos to documentary-style films.

Never Final! The Evolving Museum at mumok is dedicated to the multifaceted transformations of society and art. Central themes include change, polyphony, and the dismantling of rigid structures—whether aesthetic, social, or political. The exhibition creates a space of resonance in which historical works from the collection are reinterpreted, while current societal issues are simultaneously brought to light. Through its flexible architecture and the combination of study and project spaces, mumok offers an open, never fully concluded stage for both museological and societal development.

An ideal stage for NACHBARINNEN IN WIEN and their project FRAU.MACHT.RECHT: Here, art education becomes civic education, aesthetic experimentation meets political empowerment. The museum functions as a site of art and as a public space where marginalized voices gain visibility.

A Symbolic Conclusion

The planned closing event at Vienna City Hall—featuring speeches, performances, and conversations with the participants—marks the transition from artistic reflection within the museum to political visibility in the public sphere. mumok has provided the initial platform—NACHBARINNEN IN WIEN will carry these voices further into society.

mumok

As the largest museum for modern and contemporary art in Central Europe, mumok sees itself not only as a place of collection and exhibition, but also as a laboratory for social engagement. For years, the Collection and Education Department has been working to develop new forms of dialogue and participation that go beyond traditional art education. Key questions include: Who is represented in museums? Which voices are missing? And how can the museum become a space of inclusive public discourse?

Five workshops will take place from September 30 to October 3, 2025, in the project space of the exhibition Never Final! The Evolving Museum, held in the following language groups: Turkish, Arabic, Farsi, Chechen, and Somali.
