Claudia Pagès Rabal
Feudal Holes

Book Presentation | Claudia Pagès Rabal. Feudal Holes

Claudia Pagès Rabal (born 1990 in Barcelona) is a visual artist and writer. In her video installations, performances, sculptures, and drawings, she often addresses themes such as the protean history of the Iberian Peninsula, territorial appropriation, and the geopolitics of the Mediterranean region. In the exhibition Feudal Holes at mumok, Claudia Pagès Rabal expands on her longstanding research into the Silk Route. The show brings visitors to the ruins of a defense tower in the so-called Hispanic March, a buffer zone between European forces and Al-Andalus. Filmed with drones and 360‑° cameras, the artist explores the politics of verticality, enclosure and the construction of the „other“. Her video sculptures function as time machines that collapse time and space. The corresponding social entanglements and contradictions of this region have had a lasting impact in the Mediterranean and its ongoing colonial violence. Alongside the depictions of military ruins, the artist presents a series of drawings that record Forensic Architecture’s tracking system, which followed the journey of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition ships that attempted to reach Gaza during 2025.

Claudia Pagès Rabal’s installation Feudal Holes builds on the exhibition Five Defence Towers, which was on show at London’s Chisenhale Gallery in early 2025. The accompanying catalogue—a co-production between mumok and Chisenhale Gallery—documents the presentations at both venues.
