mumok Open Playing Area
in the exhibition Never Final! The Evolving Museum
In the exhibition’s project space, open stations invite visitors to experiment, sort, and build. These activities are inspired by the museum’s collection and continue the open and dialogue-based format of Never Final! The Evolving Museum.
The project space expands the exhibition by offering an area where visitors can actively engage. At open playing area, connections to the collection emerge: shapes are combined, materials are tested, and ways of seeing and thinking are shifted. The space embraces the museum as a place for shared research and learning through interactive experiences.
The concept and implementation are developed by the Collection & Education department. The project space builds on established formats such as Kunstlabor and inspiring programs like the mumok Space Program, which promote open, experimental approaches to art.
Open playing has been proven to support the development of cognitive, social, emotional, and motor skills—and is considered a creative way of engaging with the world. This approach is consciously embraced in the project space.
We wish you lots of fun with free creative play, exploration, and discovery!
