Hahn collection

The collection includes the Hahn Library, which was donated to the museum in 2005 by Hildegard Hahn, and focuses on Nouveau Réalisme and Fluxus as well as performative and institution-critical approaches. The artworks explore the fusion of art and everyday life through experimental and interactive elements and take a critical look at consumer culture: highlights such as George Brecht's Universal Machine and Nam June Paik's legendary piano integral offer a journey back in time to the vibrant Fluxus movement. About mumok

The building’s striking blocks of dark-gray basalt in the midst of Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier house an exceptional collection featuring major works of classical modernism, Pop Art, Fluxus, Conceptual Art, and Vienna Actionism all the way through to topical, modern art with its film and media references.

Mission

With the core of its collection focusing on Pop Art and Photorealism from the Austrian Ludwig foundation; Fluxus and Nouveau Réalisme from the Hahn Collection; Vienna Actionism; and Performance, Concept, and Minimal Art as well as the movements built on these from the nineteen-eighties to the present day, the museum uniquely brings together art based on reality with art that has been analyzing society and the institution since the nineteen-sixties.

History

This focus broadened to include Nouveau Réalisme and Fluxus with the acquisition of Wolfgang Hahn’s collection.

Ludwig collection

In addition to masterpieces of classical modernism, the Ludwig Collection contains key works of Pop Art, Nouveau Réalisme, Fluxus, Conceptual Art, Post Minimal and Arte Povera - from Claes Oldenburg's Mouse Museum to Andy Warhol's Orange Car Crash and Robert Indiana's Love Rising - Black and White Love.
