David Ter-Oganyan
Winner of the Henkel Art.Award. 2011

David Ter-Oganyan

Curated by Eva Badura-Triska

The winner of the Henkel Art.Award. 2011, David Ter-Oganyan (b. 1981 in Rostovon- Don, Russia) makes references to the tradition of modernism and its forms of abstraction in his paintings, objects, photographs and multimedia works. He at the same time combines these considerations with subversive, political and socio-critical content.

Central themes in his work reflect social tensions and the balance between power and resistance. The representation of the relationship between art and reality finds a contemporary expression in Ter-Oganyan’s work, in which socio-political commitment as the revaluation of the artistic tradition continues a tradition of critical modernism.
