Jonas Kuck, Sleep Deprivation
In the darkened Open Studio of Tolia Astakhishvili, lit only by a slide projector, artist Jonas Kuck reads from texts on speculative means of countering sleep deprivation. The point of departure here is Jonathan Crary's 24/7—Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep. The atmosphere of the evening moves between science-fiction speculation and bedtime ritual.
Jonas Kuck (b. 1995) lives and works in Berlin. He studied Art History and Literature at the Freie Universität Berlin and Fine Art at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the class of Josephine Pryde (MFA, 2025). In 2024, he co-founded the Berlin project space Custom Guitars.
The performance will be conducted in English, with German translations provided.
Tolia Curriculum is a project conceived by Georgian artist Tolia Astakhishvili, unfolding as a daily schedule of workshops, lectures, screenings, readings, and participatory formats for children and adults. In the lead-up to Figure of the Child, her largest exhibition to date, Astakhishvili opens her production and installation process to the public as she develops her work in situ.
