Fields
Program curated by Clara Chavan and Selma Meuli
Fields was conceived by Clara Chavan and Selma Meuli at the invitation of Swiss artist Jan van Oordt, as part of his screening series Orbits, presented at the independent Basel art space InfoSpace. Fields draws on the literal and conceptual framework of La Dépendance, a rural artist residency founded by van Oordt in the Swiss village of Saint-Imier. There, artists are invited to live and work for periods ranging from a few days to several weeks. Reflecting La Dépendance’s methodology and outcomes, Fields features works that critically engage with their times; moving-image pieces addressing the consequences, pathologies, and absurdities of capitalism while proposing possible responses.
