Fields
Program curated by Clara Chavan and Selma Meuli
Wednesday, May 13, 2026, 7 pm

Fields was conceived by Clara Chavan and Selma Meuli at the invitation of Swiss artist Jan van Oordt, as part of his screening series Orbits, presented at the independent Basel art space InfoSpace. Fields draws on the literal and conceptual framework of La Dépendance, a rural artist residency founded by van Oordt in the Swiss village of Saint-Imier. There, artists are invited to live and work for periods ranging from a few days to several weeks. Reflecting La Dépendance’s methodology and outcomes, Fields features works that critically engage with their times; moving-image pieces addressing the consequences, pathologies, and absurdities of capitalism while proposing possible responses.

Jan van Oordt is an artist based in Saint-Imier, where he founded and runs the art space and residency La Dépendance. The program fosters informal gatherings and conversations, positioning itself as a space of experimental noticing rather than production.

The mental space left by the reduction of our needs is taken up by those talents, artistic, poetic and scientific, which multiply and take deep root. They become the true needs of societey. The spring from a necessity to produce and not from a necessity to consume... To produce is a passion, to consume is only a taste. Underground
