Dispossession, Willful Weeds, and World-Making from the Ruins
“The opposite of dispossession is not possession. It is not accumulation. It is not unforgetting. It is mattering” (Angie Morrill, Eve Tuck, and the Super Futures Haunt Qollective, 2016). This evening presents works that explore the theme of land, with a view not only to people but to the monsters and ghosts that pass through landscapes. These films expand our discussion on contemporary and past struggles over land. In what ways can storytelling contribute to an understanding of and a relationship to land, beyond the frame of reference of ownership? The program has evolved from the context of the research project Dis/Possession: Postparticipatory Aesthetics and the Pedagogy of Land (co-funded by FWF-PEEK , AR 471) at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
