mumok is delighted to invite you to two workshops with author, artist, and activist Gregg Bordowitz. Prisoner of Love: Millett about Genet offers a rare opportunity to explore in depth the central work of the eponymous exhibition, Terminal Piece.

Kate Millett had profound insights into the ways that patriarchy oppresses women as well as people who are positioned in society as ‘feminine” or “femininized” subjects. These subjects include those of us who are identified and ostracized as sexual outcasts, homosexuals, gender non-conformists; colonized and colonial subjects; racialized identities; laborers and impoverished peoples all over the world. Her analyses, particularly her essay on writer Jean Genet in the important book “Sexual Politics,” continue to show us a possible path toward forming alliances across a vast variety of differences. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the operations of patriarchy as Millett described them vis-à-vis the writings of Jean Genet.

Gregg Bordowitz’s art includes video, installation, performance, poetry, and prints—different modalities—all organised around the artist's central commitment to writing as an activity of thought manifesting in many forms. Words are gestures are images are letters in this artist's ongoing transdisciplinary project.

The workshop is free with a valid exhibition ticket and will be held in English. An online ticket registration is required.
