Concert | Teresa Rotschopf
Currents and Orders
inside the exhibition
Tobias Pils. Shh
The lives and artistic practices of composer and musician Teresa Rotschopf and painter Tobias Pils are deeply intertwined. While Rotschopf was working on her second solo album Currents and Orders (2025, label: Martin Hossbach), Pils created a group of highly intimate paintings in his studio—now on view on the entrance level of his exhibition at mumok. Their close exchange inspired a very special event: Rotschopf performs the album live inside the exhibition together with musicians Alex Kranabetter and Alex Yannilos. Her soundscapes encounter Pils’ painterly cosmos on site, and for the first time in public.
mumok becomes an acoustic stage that resonates with the extraordinary place where the album came to life. In June 2023, Rotschopf recorded Currents and Orders in a limestone cave in Styria—deep underground, far from daylight, and attuned to archaic sounds and resonances. The cave shaped the music profoundly. For Rotschopf, it opened a space that follows its own timeless logic: “What we did in the cave could be called ‘recording music,’ but just as well ‘remembering.’ (…) My greatest wish is to sing into the deepest reaches of the universe.”
