Push and Pull: A Furniture Comedy
Allan Kaprow’s Push and Pull: A Furniture Comedy for Hans Hofmann (1963), originally created as part of a program accompanying an exhibition by his teacher, consists solely of a set of instructions. It invites the audience to rearrange the furniture in a room. This activation, in the spirit of the Happening, fosters a particular kind of energy: a form of deliberate disorder within an institutional setting.
For mumok, this gesture represents a fundamental attitude. Push and Pull therefore lies at the heart of a presentation of works from the collection that invite not only participation, but active negotiation through collective action. We warmly invite you to become an active part of this exhibition—on the opening night and beyond.
