Medardo Rosso
Inventing Modern Sculpture

Opening | Medardo Rosso

Medardo Rosso (Turin, 1858 – Milan, 1928) was one of the great pioneers of modernism and is still considered an important reference figure by many artists to this day. He created a radically anti-monumental and deeply experimental oeuvre that explores the boundaries between media, materials and forms of presentation. In a comprehensive retrospective, Rosso's groundbreaking work – sculptures, photographs and drawings – is now juxtaposed for the first time with artistic positions from 150 years and analyzed, which makes it so “alarmingly alive” (Phyllida Barlow) to this day.
