Terminal Piece and Tolia Astakhishvili, Figure of the Child

To mark the launch of its new program and the opening of the exhibitions Terminal Piece and Tolia Astakhishvili, Figure of the Child, mumok warmly invites you to a special day of encounter and celebration. 

In addition to hourly guided tours of the exhibitions, visitors can enjoy a diverse program of workshops, musical performances, and other participatory activities conceived by artist Michael Kleine. 

Special highlights include workshop poppets with artist Birke Gorm, live screen printing with Viadukt Screen Prints, a flea market with costumes from the Volkstheater collection, and a flower wreath-making session. Refreshments and snacks will be provided by a pop-up from Café Caché. We look forward to a day of exploring, experimenting, and celebrating together. 

Admission to the exhibitions and all program events is free of charge. 

 
Program Overview

Hourly guided tours  
2–7 pm, mumok foyer
At every full hour, our mediation team will meet you in the mumok entrance area to give a short introduction to the opening exhibitions. The guided tours last around 15–20 minutes and will touch on different aspects of Terminal Piece and Tolia Astakhishvili, Figure of the Child. 

Workshop poppets with Birke Gorm 
2–5 pm, Level -2 
Vienna-based artist Birke Gorm works with materials that reflect information about social structures and capitalist systems. She relates the autonomy of these materials to traditional production techniques and the gender roles assigned to them, which in turn shape themes such as labor, self-optimization, and processes of social equality. In her workshop poppets, Gorm invites participants to make dolls out of straw, hay, and flowers. 

Viadukt Screen Prints
2–4 pm & 5–7 pm, Level -2 
The Viadukt Screen Printing Workshop is bringing a mobile live printing station to mumok, allowing visitors to experience the screen-printing process up close. You can have your own textiles, such as T-shirts or tote bags, printed on-site with selected motifs from the mumok collection. Bring along your fabrics or garments you’d like to turn into personal keepsakes.

Aperitif by Simiaen
2–4 pm, Level -2 
Simiaen invites to a special aperitif experience in which lichens and their flavour profile are explored.

Volkstheater Costume Flea Market 
2–7 pm, Level  -2 
The neighboring Volkstheater is also joining us and opening its costume archive. At a flea market, original costumes will be offered for sale—a rare opportunity to take home a piece of theatre history.

Collaborative Flower Wreath Making  
4–7 pm, Level -2 
Through collaborative flower wreath making, a large wreath will be created as a collective effort, which will then be displayed in the museum as a decorative element and will continue to grow visibly throughout the day. 

Simiaen, The Lichen Taste Archive
5–7 pm, Level -2 
In this guided tasting format, Simiaen invites participants to explore the sensory world of lichens and discover their unique flavours and aromatic qualities.
