Ö1 Talent Scholarship for the Visual Arts 2026
October 8 to 18, 2026
mumok Lounge

The exhibition of the Ö1 Talent Scholarship is being shown in the mumok Lounge for the first time. The works of the artists nominated by a jury of experts – Christian Azzouni, Joseph Theodor Böhm, Lorena Mantl, Paula Mudri and Daphne von Schrader – ask what holds a space together and who gets to occupy it.

Azzouni lines up a school class of animals, using the figurigram to expose class hierarchies and structural racism. Böhm channels the sound of analogue synthesisers, shaped by light and chance, through exciters into the architecture, turning it into a resonating body. Mantl’s video stages an interrogation in which she asserts the reality of her inner world. Mudri explores care in urban space with soap door wedges and a playing field. Von Schrader uses extended crutches to prop up a room that is closing in.

Together, the works become a reflection on space as a social, physical and mediated construct, in which the familiar is seen anew and the invisible can be heard, seen and felt.

The Ö1 Talent Scholarship for the Visual Arts is an annual grant awarded to young artists in Austria.

The following artists are presenting their works at mumok: Christian Azzouni (University of Art and Design Linz), Joseph Theodor Böhm (University of Art and Design Graz), Lorena Mantl (Mozarteum Graz, Innsbruck Campus), Paula Mudri (University of Applied Arts Vienna), Daphne von Schrader (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna).

The exhibition is accessible with a valid mumok admission ticket during regular opening hours.
