In her book The Second Body, British author Daisy Hildyard attributes an additional, less tangible body to every human, that is “involved in a network of exchanges with other ecosystems”. Inspired by Hildyard’s essay, Polish choreographer Ola Maciejewska has developed a duet for dancer Leah Marojević and her “second body”, a block of ice. Vis-à-vis her liquefying dance partner, the transience and ongoing disintegration of Marojević’s own body becomes all the more apparent, and the lines between life and lifelessness, subject and object melt away.
