Level -2 at mumok has been anything but a classic exhibition space since Tolia Astakhishvili's Figure of the Child opened – it's an open structure, taken over again and again by different formats. This is the last date on this level before the exhibition here comes to a close. Before the room takes on its next shape, the materials that have carried it through these past months get one more life.

The fabrics, toys, and props on Level -2 come from the storage of mumok's former Kinderatelier – material that would otherwise have been discarded, before finding new use in Astakhishvili's exhibition. For this workshop, E-Shirt.eu picks up that chain of reuse and gives the materials a third life.

Together, fabric is gathered, cut, and sewn. At several sewing machines, the rescued materials become new pieces – T-shirts, fun objects, whatever comes together. The E-Shirt.eu team is there throughout the workshop, offering ideas and support along the way.

Behind E-Shirt.eu are Timmy and Pia, who bring different professional backgrounds to a shared cause. Timmy has over ten years of experience as a fashion designer and wants to rethink fashion as fundamentally more sustainable. Pia comes from architecture, bringing her knowledge of circular economy and resource-conscious building into the project. Under the name E(cological)-Shirt, the two are continually exploring how textile production can use fewer resources. In practice, this means T-shirts made from existing, reclaimed fabrics – a direct response to overproduction and the growing mountain of textile waste the fashion industry leaves behind.

The workshop takes place within the "hosting structures" Tolia Astakhishvili created for Level -2 at mumok. Over the course of her exhibition Figure of the Child, artists and initiatives were invited to inhabit this structure with formats of their own, extending Astakhishvili's world again and again.
