Between 2017 and 2023, filmmaker Rudij Bergmann accompanied André Butzer on numerous occasions. Exhibition visits in Berlin, Madrid, New York, Los Angeles, and Paris alternate with conversations that were neither predetermined nor premeditated—conducted in proximity, intimate and unguarded like never before, in the studio, at the foot of the Californian mountains, and along the crashing Pacific coast.

André Butzer, His Art and His Time is a sensitive testimony to Butzer’s artistic vision. With contributions from collectors, gallerists, companions, and family, the film makes the artist as a person tangible and offers insight into a distinctive painterly oeuvre.
