In our monthly WorldPictures workshop, mumok holds art workshops open to the public, offering people from all over the world—migrants and non-migrants—a creative space for encounter and exchange. Everyone who wishes to participate is welcome, and also welcome to become a regular participant. In three-hour workshops participants will first get to know each other a little, and then together take a short visit to a current mumok exhibition. Then they work together in the mumok studio getting to know various images of the world and new horizons, developing new ideas and making new friendships. The new and unfamiliar is not integrated into any existing system, as rather all sides are enriched. The pure pleasure of artistic work is what matters—sharing paints, admiring each other’s work, and quickly finding things to talk about.
In this workshop format, art is a first impulse that helps participants to share their experiences of living in Austria. The focus is on communication and a relaxed way of getting to know each other. Often, we do not need even need many words to come closer to each other. Participants can simply work in peace, switch off a little, and forget the cares of everyday life. In these afternoons, extraordinary artworks are created in a very short time, each of them as unique as the people who make them.
WorldPictures takes place in cooperation with the Caritas Kompa project that operates as an interface between refugee homes and sheltered housing in Vienna. Caritas organizes transport to mumok and the use of interpreters when needed.
