This edition by Pakui Hardware (Neringa Černiauskaitė, Ugnius Gelguda) consists of 5 original single works. Photos of the surfaces of planets from the NASA archives were projected onto transparent plastic sheets with uneven relief surfaces. The images of landscape surfaces thus regain a sense of three-dimensionality, merging with the plastic medium onto which they are transferred to create hybrids that have both pictorial and sculptural qualities. In these works, the physical and organic are combined with the cool aesthetics of the artificial material. Pakui Hardware’s exhibition Vanilla Eyes presents similar works. One topical frame of reference for these works are new laws in the USA enabling private persons and businesses to use artificial bacteria to mine for raw materials on asteroids close to the Earth. The artists address the underlying links between space research, biogenetics, and the interests of capital.
The two Lithuanian artists Neringa Černiauskaitė (born 1984) and Ugnius Gelguda (born 1977) have been working together as Pakui Hardware since 2014.
