Heimo Zobernig (born 1958 in Mauthen, Carinthia) is one of the internationally best-known of contemporary Austrian artists. He works across many genres, using reduced formal idioms and very precise contents, taking a step back toward complex figurative art.
This bronze candlestick displays traces of the molding process that Zobernig has deliberately left visible so as to show the conditions of the production of art. A brutal materiality inexorably provokes reflection on the fragility of human existence.
