On Friday, July 1, 2022 we will open the exhibition Collaborations curated by Heike Eipeldauer and Franz Thalmair. Departing from the focuses of the mumok collections on the avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s as well as conceptual and socio-analytic approaches in contemporary art, the exhibition Collaborations examines diverse strategies of collective authorship. The exhibition builds a bridge spanning from the smallest to the largest unit of togetherness: from the internal ties of the collective to a particular constellation of the connective, from the artist duo to society—and last but not least, from the love affair to the interconnectedness of life.
Program on July 1
- Introduction: Karola Kraus, General Director
- On the exhibition: Heike Eipeldauer und Franz Thalmair, Curators
- Reception with sparkling wine
NSK Passport Office
As part of the opening of Collaborations, passports will be issued at the NSK Passport Office by the collective IRWIN beginning at 6 pm and 20 passports will be given away.
The collective work of IRWIN was initially focused on the creation of local networks. From the 1990s onward, interaction and the exchange of experiences with international colleagues gained in importance. These two phases can be identified in the art collective Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), founded by IRWIN, the band Laibach, and the theater group Gledališče sester Scipion Nasice (The Scipion Nasice Sisters Theater) in 1984. While NSK initially presented itself as a hermetic, almost totalitarian organization, in 1992 the collective became a state without territory. As part of the opening at mumok, IRWIN will set up a temporary passport office in the exhibition, where visitors can become citizens of the NSK state by submitting passport photos and application forms.
